Minutes 4 Dec 2002

MCLGA Meeting held on December 4th 2002 to discuss Centenary in 2009

Present: Gillian Kirkwood (Convenor), Janet Wake (Captain MCLGA), Maggie McPherson (Vice Captain MCLGA), Karen Ballantyne, Ellice Cackett, Linda Caine, Noreen Fenton, Mairi Pollock, Pamela Williamson.

There was some general discussion on how the centenary might be recognised. Initially material could be collected and put up on the Web site. It was not clear whether a book should be produced and printed. Probably, there would be only a limited market for this. There would need to consider what sort of events or competitions we might wish to organise to recognise the actual centenary year.

  1. It was agreed that initially the Group should concentrate on collecting reminiscences and information from senior members of the Association.
    • Karen and Mairi would contact Jess More.
    • Maggie and Pamela would contact Jess Smith.
    • Gillian would contact Jenny Antonio and also speak to Ethel Jack.
    • Janet would contact Norma Richmond and Avril Robertson to ask them to speak to Murrayfield ladies.
  2. It was suggested that Midlothian should write to the SLGA offering to host the County Finals in 2009. It was noted that, as well as Midlothian, Dumbarton & Argyll, Fife, Perth & Kinross, Lanarkshire and Stirling & Clackmannan would also have their centenary year in 2009. (Action Janet).
  3. It was agreed that the Club Representatives should be written to, asking them to seek out information on Midlothian members and the history of MCLGA from their Club Files, AGM Minutes etc. They would also be asked if there were any ‘senior members’ in their clubs who could be approached and might provide historical/interesting information on MCLGA. (Janet and Gillian to prepare letter)
  4. Sharon McPherson still held the historical information on the Junior Girls. Janet would get this from her. Karen offered to do research on the history of the Junior Section.
  5. Some of the old account books had been handed over by Rosemary Williamson. Janet would go through these books.
  6. Maggie offered to go through the membership book for 1946-1965 to identify members from this period who were still alive and might be contacted.
  7. Noreen offered to go through original AGM minute book for the period 1909-1968. She was asked to concentrate on the period from 1909-1933 and extract information on Captains, Champions, County Matches, Presidents and 5-aside Matches. Pamela offered to help with this and to look at the AGM minute book also. Both Noreen and Pamela expressed interest in looking up old records (newspapers, sports-papers, etc) to find early information on MCLGA.
  8. Linda offered to summarise material prepared by Cath Mackay about the development of the Association.
  9. Ellice offered to scan or type up material describing the history of and development of the 5-asides Matches.

It was agreed that Gillian and Janet should review the position in March 2003
