Minutes April 11 2007

MCLGA Note of Meeting held on April 11th 2007 to discuss Centenary in 2009

Present: Karen Ballantyne, Gillian Kirkwood (Convenor), Ellice Cackett (Captain MCLGA), Linda Caine, Noreen Fenton, Tracy Laughland, Agnes Leslie, Maggie McPherson, Janet Wake. Pamela Williamson Apologies: Mairi Pollock

1. Note of last meeting - agreed.

2. Funding for Centenary was discussed. The Midlothian Committee had previously agreed that the sum £2000 per annum over the next three years (£6000 in total) would be set aside from Midlothian funds to help support centenary events. Mairi Pollock had spoken about fund-raising, eg a silent auction. Where possible sponsorship should be sought.

3. Centenary Lunch. It was agreed that the a Centenary Lunch should be held on January 24th 2009 (estimated attendance 100+ people) The Roxburgh Hotel would charge £28 for lunch - £35 would include a ½ bottle of wine per person. Other possible venues might be Pollock Halls or the Carlton Highland Hotel (similar price to the Roxburgh). Maggie would continue to explore options, but it was thought the likely venue would be the Roxburgh Hotel. Those attending would include members and past members of Midlothian, guests (SLGA, SUGS, Duddingston). It was suggested that members should be asked to pay £30.00 per person for a 3-course lunch with coffee, this being subsidised by up to £5 per head. It was suggested that the sum of £2000 might be allocated to support this event.

4. Mementos for Members. After some discussion it was suggested that a Bag Tag might be obtained for (up to ~400) members. Other mementos might include 'goody bags' 'Midlothian' Tees, a small dish with a lid (Gillian would investigate). It was suggested that £1000 from the allocated Midlothian funds might be put towards the cost of mementos. Sponsorship should be sought also, eg from the Edinburgh Ladies' Golf Centre.

5. Competition for Members. It was agreed that a Tri-am might be held for members. Duddingston Golf Course (where Midlothian's first competition had been held) might be a good venue. Teams from other Counties holding centenaries at the same time (Ayrshire, Dumbarton and Argyllshire, Fife, Forfarshire (now Angus), Lanarkshire, Perthshire (now Perth & Kinross), Renfrewshire, Stirlingshire) might also be invited to take part in the Triam. Sponsorship should be sought for prizes for this event.

6. Competition(s) with other Counties and Scratch Competition for Counties. It had already been agreed that a match would be held with Dumbarton and Argyll, who would be celebrating their centenary in the same year. It was suggested also that a 'County' Trophy might be established for competition during the Scottish Ladies (Close) Amateur Championship in 2009. Counties could nominate a team of players from those entering. Gillian would explore this with other counties and suggest that each might contribute towards the cost of a trophy. There would be no ongoing costs once this was established.

7. Historical Information and Publication. There was some discussion on possible options for the publication of historical material and whether this might be a brochure at ~£1 per copy of a book which might cost ~£7 per copy. The excellent book recently published by Cheshire County was noted. The collection of historical material was reviewed. It was agreed that all the material should be collected by the end of 2007 and that the format of any publication should be planned from January to March 2008. It was suggested that the sum of £2500 (from the allocated Midlothian funds) might be put towards the cost of a publication. Sponsorship would be required if a book was to be published.

8. Future Meetings. Two dates were agreed:- Wednesday August 29th 2007 and Wednesday 5th December 2007 at 7:30pm at 6 Hallhead Road
